DMPLAS Quick-Start and Testing Instructions
Release Version 1.1
This short documentation has been written for those 90% of you who never
read documentation.
What DMPLAS does:
-----------------
Run DMPLAS /A
Then run any program that prints IBM/Epson text or graphics - it will
come out right on your laser printer. Works with GRAPHICS.COM also.
If you run programs that recognize your laser printer, run DMPLAS /D
to turn DMPLAS off.
Also:
-----
If you should happen to have a file of text or graphics that is
printable on an Epson it can be printed on your laser printer with the
comand DMPLAS /P FILENAME.EXT
And as an added convenience, the command DMPLAS /F will issue a form
feed.
How DMPLAS works:
-----------------
It looks at all the data being sent to your printer under normal
circumstances (INT 17h) and translates Epson escape sequences (including
graphics) to those recognized by the HP LaserJet II.
How to test DMPLAS:
-------------------
Run the following
COPY DLFONTS.PRN PRN Demo of your current fonts
DMPLAS /A Turns on DMPLAS
COPY DLTEST-1.PRN PRN Demos of DMPLAS's capabilities
COPY DLTEST-2.PRN PRN (This can also be done by
COPY DLTEST-3.PRN PRN COPY DLTEST-*.PRN PRN )
COPY DLTEST-4.PRN PRN
COPY DLTEST-5.PRN PRN
COPY DLTEST-6.PRN PRN
COPY DLTEST-F.PRN PRN
COPY DLTEST-G.PRN PRN
COPY DLTEST-W.PRN PRN
DMPLAS /D Turns off DMPLAS (always remember to do
this so your LaserJet will act normally).
These test files are self-explanatory and the results you get will show
what your printer is capable of doing with the native fonts (or those
you have downloaded).
An HP LaserJet II with native fonts only will use the 10cpi courier and
Courier Bold along with the 16.66 cpi Line-printer fonts. The spacing
will be correct and the superscript and subscript will show properly. In
the second test (DLTEST-2.PRN) there will be many lines in the
combination samples that are not different. This is due to the lack of
appropriate fonts.
If you are adventurous the second part of the DMPLAS family can be
tried. The DMPLAS Soft Font Collection (included on this disk or found
on bulletin boards as DMPLASFN.ZIP) is documented separately. Some
experimentation with these fonts can improve the amount of
"authenticity" you can acheive from DMPLAS. Be aware though that you
will not want to use all of the fonts in the DMPLAS Soft Font Collection
since they will take over 600k of your printer memory and won't all fit
in standard HP LaserJet II printers.
What now?
---------
If you've done a DMPLAS /A then there isn't anything more you need
do (except pay for DMPLAS with your registration fee if you like it).
Other documentation files that will prove handy are:
DMPLAS.DOC - detailed technical discussion
LICENSE.DOC - legal aspects and an invoice
In DMPLASFN you will find:
FONT.DOC - the Soft Font Collection documentation
DOWNLOAD.DOC - documentation and invoice for the DOWNLOAD program.
DOWNLOAD is provided in this package by Gary Elfring and
is useful with any Soft Font. It is registrable by itself
if you use it without continuing to use DMPLAS
One other thing:
----------------
Don't forget to turn DMPLAS off when you run programs that print to HP
LaserJets instead of IBM/Epson printers. If forget this, your printing
will look really strange. Do this with DMPLAS /D
Problems?
---------
Do to the nature of DMPLAS we will be able to help you best if you can
mail us a copy of the printed results from the test suite above (see How
to test DMPLAS). Please include the printed results from the following
commands:
COPY DLFONTS.PRN PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-1.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-2.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-3.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-4.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-5.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-6.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-F.PRN
DMPLAS /P DLTEST-G.PRN
Please include your phone number so we can get back to you quickly.
Thank you.
